Raising Healthy Kids from the Inside Out: Our Family’s Approach to Wellness

People ask us all the time: what do you actually do with your own kids?

It is one of our favorite questions to answer, because the truth is that our family is the reason we do what we do. Before we were chiropractors, we were — and are — parents. And everything we recommend to our patients is something we live ourselves.

Here is an honest look at how the Benz family approaches health.

Chiropractic Care Starts at Birth

All three of our kids were checked and adjusted within the first days of life. Not because anything was obviously wrong, but because we know what the birth process involves and we wanted to make sure their nervous systems were clear and free from the very beginning.

They have been under regular chiropractic care their entire lives. They think of it as completely normal — as routine as brushing their teeth. And the results speak for themselves. Our kids are healthy, resilient, and thriving.

We Treat Symptoms as Signals

When one of our kids gets sick, our first question is not “what can we give them to make this stop?” It is “what is their body trying to do, and how can we support it?”

Fever, for example, is not the enemy. It is the immune system working exactly as designed. Our default is to support the body’s natural response — rest, fluids, extra adjustments to support nervous system and immune function — rather than immediately suppressing symptoms.

This does not mean we never use medication or that we avoid medical care. We believe in a collaborative approach and know when to refer. But our first line is always: trust the body. Support the body. Get out of the way.

Movement Is Non-Negotiable

Our kids move. A lot. Dr. Ross runs trails, takes the kids gem hunting in the desert, and is always looking for the next outdoor adventure to pull the family into. Movement is not a scheduled activity in our house — it is just life.

We also pay attention to the movement our kids are not getting. Long screen time, heavy backpacks, and extended sitting are realities of modern childhood, and we actively work to counterbalance them.

We Talk About Their Bodies

We want our kids to grow up feeling connected to and empowered by their bodies — not afraid of them. We explain what’s happening when they get adjusted. We talk about what different symptoms mean. We celebrate when their bodies heal quickly and use it as a teaching moment about how incredible human physiology is.

Kids who understand their bodies grow into adults who trust their bodies. That is a gift that keeps giving.

What We Wish Every Parent Knew

You do not have to wait for something to go wrong to invest in your child’s health. The families who bring their kids in for regular wellness adjustments — before symptoms, before crisis — are the ones whose kids seem to sidestep the sick cycles, sleep better, and grow with healthier spines and nervous systems.

Chiropractic care is not crisis care. It is a lifestyle. And starting that lifestyle early is one of the greatest health investments you can make for your child.

We know this not just as chiropractors. We know it as parents.
